Socrates Sapounas is a self-taught writer, painter and cartoonist from Athens, Greece. He specializes in surrealist/esoteric portraits, poems and comics.
Through his art he explores themes of escape, isolation, violence, ecstasy, delirium and above all the search for identity, liberation and transformation.
He produces existential reveries and psychedelic paintings that expose the inner conflicts, pleasures, delusions
and triumphs of everyday life in the age of social media. He works with traditional mixed media,
favoring the combination of pencils, charcoal,
acrylic paint, oils and ink on paper or canvas.
At the center of his creative endeavors lies the
self-published graphic novel series
“Metamorphosis” (Kickstarter 2021 & 2023).
